Costa Rica is one of the first countries to take eco-tourism seriously and has become a popular destination for all types of travelers. The tropical paradise is filled with people from all parts of the world. There’s great options both in luxury and budget and a wide variety of beach activities. But I think everyone goes to Costa Rica for the same thing; rainforests and relaxation.

Montezuma is located on the Nicoya Peninsula, right on the beach. This little village might not seem much to the naked eye upon arrival, but once you settle in to your beachside accommodation, you’ll realise that there’s so much more to this place. Take a boat tour to Isle Tortuga and visit the island’s pet warthog and parrot while snorkelling in the crystal clear waters while you wait for your lunch to be served. There’s monkeys in the coffee shop and a beautiful waterfall hike not far away. Pair all this with incredible food and friendly locals and you will never want to leave.

Rested on the Continental Divide of Costa Rica, the Monteverde Cloud Forest is stunning. Because it is located high above the relaxed, beachy villages, the Cloud Forest keeps the fog from escaping its rolling hills and transfers to all the living species below. There’s over 400 types of birds living in the forest among with other animals. The highlights of this forest walk include expansive bridges that overlook the incredible clouded forest and a chance to go zip lining through the fog. It’s a unique ecosystem unlike any other in the world.

The volcano hovers in the backdrop of everyone’s photos on a clear day. Its stunning presence isn’t avoided, its celebrated. With many tours offering hikes along the volcano, boat tours around the volcano, and then the tours who put you right in the action. There’s beautiful hot springs on the volcano’s edge that at night, you can see the heat rise from the volcano in an amber hue. It’s one of the most incredible natural landscapes you can witness in Costa Rica.

Manuel Antonio is a tiny little spot on the Pacific coast, right at the top of Manuel Antonio National Park. Marked with insane coastal views and restaurants a plenty, Manuel Antonio is one of the most popular and touristy spots of Costa Rica. There’s even a restaurant & lounge inside a full-size airplane. The national park is full of animals, monkeys especially, white sand beaches and coral reefs. It’s exactly what you would think a tropical rainforest region should look and feel like.

The capital of Costa Rica is full of life and attractions. If you’re looking for culture, museums, art, dancing, and shopping, this is your best bet. Local markets are spotted around the city, focusing on locally-made crafts and art. Museums are a plenty and full of history and art. Also the epicentre of Costa Rican cuisine, the capital boasts many restaurants with fantastic local and fresh dishes. If you want to act like a true local, you’ll hit up the roller skating rink and join the rest.
