If you’re a Mobal user, you probably love Japan just as much as we do. But, there are still times when you might need to leave the country for a time, whether it’s a holiday or a trip back home.
In fact, loads of you have been letting us know in recent months how useful it’d be to be able to suspend your Mobal service while you’re away, and then turn it back on again as soon as you return to Japan, without having to get a new SIM with a new hone number.
So, we’ve dusted off an old favourite, familiar to longtime Mobal users… we’ve brought back the Vacation Plan!
So how does it work?
It’s super simple; everything you need is in your MyAccount.
To suspend your SIM/eSIM service:
- Log in to your Mobal account and go to the Services section.
- Click “More Information” next to your SIM/eSIM.
- Scroll down to the Plan section and click “Downgrade Plan.”
- Select the Vacation Plan and the suspension start date (must be the 1st of the upcoming month).
- If it’s less than 24 hours before the new month, the suspension will start the following month.
- Click “Submit” to process your request.
Your SIM service will cost ¥900/month.
To reactivate your plan:
- Go back to the same section of your account and click “Upgrade Plan.”
- Choose your new plan and the reactivation date.
- If you reactivate mid-month, you’ll be charged the difference between the vacation plan and your new plan.
When you return to Japan, your phone number and chosen SIM plan will be ready to use after activation.
Why use the Vacation Plan?
We decided to bring the Vacation Plan back from its… holiday… for a few reasons:
Cost: Suspending your service will save you money. Buying a SIM/eSIM every time you return home is costly and timely, so by suspending your plan, you’re saving money while vacationing.
You can keep your phone number: With the Mobal Vacation Plan you can keep your phone number throughout the suspension and reactivation process.
Convenience: If you were to cancel your plan and then repurchase a SIM from us again, it’d be great for our sales targets but not so great for you. It would mean ordering, then picking up or waiting for your SIM to be delivered. You can now skip all this, and reactivate your existing SIM as soon as you land.
Peace of mind: We guarantee that once you suspend your SIM, you’ll only pay a fixed monthly fee of ¥900. This means no surprise charges or paying for data outside the country.
