Japan have announced this month that they are planning to recycle old cell phones and tablets – and then use the recycled metals to make medals for the 2020 Olympics.
It’s part of a new green initiative to involve everyone in the build-up to the Olympics.
As well as phones, they’ll also be collecting other electrical items such as cameras, laptops and games consoles. Their aim is to collect 8 tonnes of metal to make 5000 Olympic and Paralympic medals.
We think this is a great idea and so we’ll be donating our old handsets to the cause.
